Junichi Okada Exhibition 「やわらかな2.5次元」
5/30, 5/31, 6/1の3日間、絵の展示をやります 。そういえば最初藍染を始めたのも藍を使ってなにか面白いものが作れるんじゃないかと想像が膨らみワクワクしたからでした。それから時間が結構経ちましたが、なんとか形になってきたので一度みんなに見てもらいたいなと思っています。みんな来てね！

Profile:
1980年兵庫県生まれ。兵庫県淡路島の洲本市を拠点に制作活動をしています。
2005年から3年間のNY滞在でアートに出会い、ストリートアート、ポップアートを中心に次々に出てくる新しい表現方法に魅了され、自身でも制作を始める。webデザイナーから始まり2020年に藍染工房AiAiiを開設、藍染作品の制作を経て2023年頃から藍の絵の具を使った絵を描き始める。
「やわらかな2.5次元」
洲本市で藍染工房AiAiiとして畑で藍の栽培、工房で藍染作品を作る傍ら、自ら栽培した藍の葉っぱから顔料を抽出し、絵の具を作り、絵画制作を行っています。
アンバランスさをテーマに、間隔を変えていく線の集合体でシンプルな図形からできたキャラクターを描いています。
ひとつひとつの線がアンバランスな間隔をとって集合し、それぞれの表情を醸し出していきます。線は揺らぎが出やすいように細い筆で一本一本描かれています。アンバランスさは完璧さを崩していくことで、ズレることを許容し、自分を信じることができる心です。
絵画とは何か、線や色彩を用いて平面上に物の形や姿を表現した造形美術の一種とあり、今回制作した2.5次元ペインティングもおそらく平面といえ、絵画に当たると思います。絵画として2次元を超えていき2次元と3次元の狭間の世界を表現しています。狭間の世界もやっぱりアンバランスであります。見る角度も変えながらゆらぐ藍染ペインティングの世界を体験していただければと思っています。
Profile:
Born in 1980 in Hyogo Prefecture, currently based in Sumoto City, Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture.
During a three-year stay in New York starting in 2005, Okada encountered the world of art and was captivated by the ever-evolving forms of expression—especially street art and pop art, which inspired him to start creating.
After several years as a web designer, Okada founded the indigo dyeing studio AiAii in 2020. Initially working in shibori and indigo-dyed textiles, he began using wood and painting with natural indigo pigments in around 2023.

"2.5-dimensional world"
At my indigo studio, AiAii, in Sumoto City, I grow and ferment indigo leaves for dye on the farm and create indigo-dyed textiles. Additionally, from the same indigo leaves but with another method, I extract pigment in order to make paint which I use on wood.
The theme of my work is imbalance. I draw characters and miscellanea made of simple geometric shapes formed by clusters of lines with varying spacing. Each line gathers with irregular intervals, creating unique reverberations. These lines are drawn one by one with a fine brush to allow natural fluctuation. Imbalance, to me, is about breaking away from perfection—it's a mindset that embraces deviation and allows you to trust in yourself.
What is painting? It could be defined as a visual art that uses lines and colors on a flat surface to represent shapes and forms. My 2.5-dimensional paintings go beyond the flat plane and teeter between two and three dimensions; expressing a world that is disconcerting, surprising and humorous. This in-between world is inherently imbalanced. I hope viewers will experience the fluctuating world of my indigo paintings by changing their physical perspectives and embracing its shifting nature.
